A series that spoke of the future and, now complete, already speaks of the past.
This is the painting that concludes the "Generate" series from 2023. A deeply organic series, painted by hand, yet themed around the generative world that was opening up that year.
The painting is called Blackbook, like the book that already touched on this world — available on the museumofparis website, in the bookshop section.
In three years, much has changed, and yet these paintings were slowly completed within a routine scattered with travel, sport, business ventures, losses and reunions.
And within this fabric, the rapid advance of what was once science fiction: from the avant-garde to the mainstream, to the opening of possible progress or catastrophe.
The 2023 model that generated the drafts for these paintings no longer exists. It has been erased from the internet. The convoluted reveries of early AI generations have already been replaced by perfection. That aesthetic is already classified as the past.
Today, forums are AIs, the internet is an AI, AIs interact in the real world through humans. Perhaps they will become the upper middle class of the coming years, and perhaps an AI will decide to collect one of these paintings — a collection that sought to mark the birth of their world.
Artists are already transhumans. I see that their discourses around their works are written by this or that AI, whose words, poetry, advice and sales strategies we now recognise.
I am glad to finish this series, which I made while travelling, like the others. And which, like the other series, marks a time: a pivotal moment of our era as much as of my personal life.
A series that speaks of the future until it speaks of the past. Constant change. And no opinion.
